What’s good for you and your bottom line.
The other day, I received a call from someone who had been referred by an existing client. Let’s call him Tom. Tom likes the brand management and online marketing work we’ve been doing for a colleague and so reached out to inquire about how we could help him market his business.
Tom owns a small sized mortgage brokerage firm and while he had a really nice looking website, business cards and brochures, his brand presence was virtually non-existent. With some strategic planning we could see so much potential that just needed to be tapped into. I asked Tom some pointed questions about the brand, the culture, the story behind the company, and future company goals. I asked him about website traffic and customer conversions.
Then, I asked why he decided NOT to continue working with the previous agency that had been managing his brand and online marketing.

Solid business acumen. Ability to take action.
Tom explained. It was this simple. The previous agency did NOT know how to practice professional project management — critical to brand management and online marketing. With so many moving parts they were doomed to fail.
So Tom called us and gave Original Ginger his business because the previous agency did NOT follow through. They didn’t have a solid plan for managing the project. They didn’t effectively communicate each phase of the project. Workflow was interrupted. Deadlines were missed. Budget became a moving target. Tom had NO idea what would be delivered at project end, by when, or at what cost.
Making a plan. Following through. Good Brand Management and Online Marketing.
A good agency knows how to coordinate resources. They also know how to see the “big picture”, set timelines, create a plan, and assign tasks for each project phase. Most importantly, they know how to communicate with their client, confirm an understanding, and manage expectations within budget. It’s called Professional Project Management. It’s what we do at Original Ginger.

The Good, The Bad, and the Downright Ugly.
Professional Project Management — this is what sets the good agencies apart from the bad and the ugly.
The good agencies really understand that utilising proper project management principles is good for both the client and the bottom line. Good agencies always deliver what the client has asked for because the process is thorough and provides a mechanism to address issues and changes as they come up….and let’s be honest, issues always come up. No process, no mechanism in place – meet the bad and the downright ugly.
So when you’re ready to work with an agency on your next marketing initiative – whether it’s a new website, advertising campaign, content marketing, or maybe even some video production, ask about project management. Do they have processes in place? Does their project management style work for you? If not, maybe it’s time to consider another agency.
We don’t fly by the seat of our pants.
