Client: Avant Guard Gates
Supporting Informed Sales Conversations Through Digital Design
The Challenge
Avant Guard Gates supplies and manufactures automatic gate and access control systems for residential and commercial applications across British Columbia. Established in 2000, the business has built a strong reputation for quality products and knowledgeable service.
As the company looked to grow its online presence, the challenge wasn’t simply to sell products online. Instead, the goal was to create a website that could support informed consultation, helping prospective clients explore options, understand requirements, and engage meaningfully with the sales team.
With the owner frequently travelling to industry trade shows, the project also required a process that could move forward efficiently and independently.
The challenge was to:
- Create a professional website that reflected Avant Guard Gates’ credibility
- Enable online product exploration without forcing transactional purchasing
- Support faster, more informed sales conversations
- Build a system that worked around a busy operational schedule

Our Approach
Working from Avant Guard Gates’ existing logo, we developed a restrained colour palette and visual direction to guide the website design and ensure consistency throughout the build.
Rather than implementing traditional e-commerce, we designed a wishlist-based enquiry system. This allowed visitors to:
- Browse gate and access control products
- Select items relevant to their needs
- Submit a wishlist for follow-up by the sales team
This approach ensured the website functioned as a sales enablement tool, not a transactional storefront.
Once a wishlist is submitted, the sales team receives clear, structured information — allowing them to follow up promptly with accurate pricing, technical guidance, and installation recommendations.
Designing for Consultation, Not Checkout
By reframing e-commerce as a consultation workflow, the website helps align expectations early in the sales process.
Clients arrive at conversations better informed, and sales staff are able to respond more efficiently — improving both the client experience and internal workflow.
The result is a system that supports thoughtful decision-making in a category where products, installation, and site conditions all matter.
This work also informed later collaboration with a related business, Pacifica Gates, allowing the consultation-based approach to be applied across complementary gate and access control services.
The Outcome
Avant Guard Gates now has a website that:
- Reflects the strength and reliability of their business
- Supports informed client enquiries rather than impulse purchases
- Streamlines internal sales follow-up
- Works effectively alongside an active, travel-heavy leadership schedule
The site functions as a practical business tool — helping clients explore options and enabling the sales team to focus on delivering the right solution.
