Client: Erickson Concrete
Translating a Strong Personal Vision into a Working Trade Identity
The Challenge
Erickson Concrete operates as a referral-only business, relying on reputation and word of mouth rather than active lead generation. As such, the client didn’t require a website or digital marketing presence. What they did want was a distinctive, professional logo that could represent the business clearly and confidently on trucks and job sites.
The challenge was to:
- Translate a very specific personal vision into an original design
- Create a logo that conveyed strength and confidence without crossing into parody or offence
- Ensure the identity worked effectively as large-scale vehicle graphics
- Respect copyright limitations while capturing the intended spirit

Our Approach
We began with a focused brand discovery process to understand the client’s inspiration, preferences, and boundaries.
The reference points were clear:
- A military-inspired aesthetic
- A strong canine symbol
- Uppercase typography
- A restrained, utilitarian colour palette
Rather than replicating existing imagery, we treated these elements as conceptual direction, developing an original illustration that reflected the tone the client wanted while remaining legally and creatively distinct.
Finding the Right Balance
The core challenge was achieving the right level of toughness.
The illustration needed to:
- Feel strong and assertive
- Avoid unnecessary aggression
- Read clearly at a distance
- Work across colour and monochrome applications
The final design features a hand-illustrated canine mark that strikes a careful balance — confident and muscular without tipping into caricature. Multiple variations were created in full colour, black, and white to ensure flexibility across use cases.
To accommodate vehicle application, mirrored versions were produced so the mark faces forward on both sides of the truck — a small but practical detail that reinforces professionalism on site.
The Outcome
Erickson Concrete now has a logo that:
- Clearly represents the business on job sites
- Reflects the owner’s vision and working style
- Makes a strong, confident impression without excess
- Functions effectively as a vehicle decal and masthead
The result is a trade identity designed to support visibility and recognition in real-world working environments — without unnecessary complexity.
