You may have noticed this already, but here at Original Ginger, we love the colour orange. It’s bright, fresh, and inspiring… not to mention abundant at this time of year, which is just fine by us! Halloween means vibrant pumpkins, a rainbow of autumn leaves, blazing sunsets and cozy fires – all of which are supremely orange – and just perfect for sharing with the people you love. So to celebrate the season in our signature colourful style, the extended OG family all took a trip to a local farm, and we wanted to share the fun experience with all of you.
Original Ginger’s Trip to the Pumpkin Patch
Aldor Acres is a family owned and operated farm in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Family, friends, and the whole Original Ginger team all got into our best boots and prepared for a day of hay rides and pumpkin patch picking. It turns out that there is so much more than that to see and do! While our main goals were to find the perfect pumpkin loot and to support an awesome local business, the kids and adults alike got caught up in all of the amazing animal activity happening around the farm.

Our day began with the ‘running of the goats,’ as everyone was let out of the barn to head to their daily digs in the petting zoo. We all got a good laugh as a stampede of wobbling, warbling, flappy-eared goof balls ran by us at top speed. If you haven’t seen a few dozen goats charging down a roadway in a tumult, you’re going to have to add it to your to-do list, because it’s just as hilarious as it sounds. Even more amazingly, they all managed to make it across the property without any supervision!
We took a hayride out to a huge hidden pumpkin patch at the back of the farm, and were visited by some curious cows who supervised as we chose our jack-o-lantern candidates. Once we rumbled back to the main area, everyone visited the barns to learn more about kind and sustainable animal husbandry, as well as get to some pets and snuggles in with bunnies, piglets, chicks, horses, llamas, cows, a donkey, and – most of the team’s favourite – a pen full of sleepy six week old puppies. Saying that almost all of us here are a bit dog crazy is a definite understatement, so a few of us (me. It’s me.) ended up missing the pig races because we didn’t want to wake up the little furballs who had snuggled into our laps for a snooze.
We capped off our visit with hot chocolate around a roaring bonfire, watched a daredevil with a dremel carve some really crazy Halloween pumpkin designs, and picked up some tasty handmade preserves full of the farm’s produce and local honey. If you’re able to get out to Aldor Acres, you absolutely should – it’s family tested and OG approved. The next season coming up revolves around cutting your own local and sustainable Christmas tree, and all of the wonderful activities we enjoyed together as a team would be wonderful to share with your own families. From all of us at Original Ginger, we hope you have a fun, safe, spooky (and orange!) Halloween.
