Spring is here…
Love that brand colour inspiration!
Brand colours can provoke emotion and memory association that affect how your brand is perceived in the marketplace.
We make colour choices everyday during brand exploration, website design, and other branding activities on behalf of our clients. Research shows that color has the ability to increase brand recognition by as much as 80%. It also affects how memorable or engaging design is, or how well readers comprehend text.
But most importantly it visually informs how people will “feel” about you and your brand, and how well you will stand out in a sea of competitors.

Daily Inspiration Is All Around You
As a designer I am inspired by the beautiful natural colour schemes and textures I find all around me (like flowers, fabrics, stone and wood structures). With a mobile camera phone it’s super easy to quickly capture images on the fly during my daily travels, and then sample the colours directly from the photos into Photoshop or Illustrator. Personally, I like to create colour boards, texture boards, creative journals, scrapbooks, and in-house storyboards from photos, fabric swatches, magazine articles, greeting cards or anything else I believe has creative potential. The intention isn’t to copy what I see, but to be inspired by it.
You never know what will spark a new idea. Colour palettes, shapes, and patterns from my archives help me explore a “look” or “feel” for a current or upcoming project when I’m brainstorming a creative direction with my team here at Original Ginger.
I do the same with fonts by earmarking pages of magazines or pinning online images to a Pinterest board. It’s a great way to archive font pairings that work well together.

How Can You Create Your Own Inspiration Boards?
With free online tools like Pinterest and COLOURlovers, it’s simple to create design archives and experiment with different colour palettes. For anyone planning to explore their brand, re-decorate their home, build a backyard sanctuary, hold an event, or embark on a creative project of any kind, I highly recommend using these tools to create your own storyboards.
