When Jody Thomas was looking to launch her women’s fashion label, SheaKardel, she knew she needed a great-looking website to drive online sales – one that would represent the wild spirit and free-flowing style of her clothing line. For this she turned to Original Ginger.
From the very start, we fell in love with Jody’s sense of adventure – it shines through in her life story and in her designs. This inspired us to come up with a playful, engaging look for her site that was a true representation of her free spirit and her keen sense of style.
Of course, the aesthetics of the website were just one element of its overall design. It not only needed to look great, it also needed to perform. And in SheaKardel’s case, this meant providing a seamless shopping experience that would drive sales. To achieve this, we used the *Ecwid online shopping cart platform. As you can see, Ecwid featured this particular Original Ginger E-Commerce Web Design project on the the main pages of their website.
Seamless integration for online sales performance
Ecwid is our go-to shopping cart technology, and we’ve gained a lot of experience integrating it into our clients’ websites over the years. It offers a wide range of features that help to support online sales, from secure credit card payments to end-to-end order tracking and management. Importantly, it allows for significant customization, so that we’re able to make it work just the way we (and our clients!) want it to.
In addition, it supports responsive design, so that users can sell across multiple channels: web, mobile, social media and third-party sales platforms. We can’t stress the importance of this enough given the shopping habits of the modern consumer, who wants to be able to browse and buy wherever they are, and on whichever platform they prefer!
Driven by design
Ultimately, the design of the website and the online shopping cart have provided a platform for SheaKardel Designs to build a successful business. But as with any platform, it needs to be leveraged correctly to deliver performance – with engaging content, savvy marketing strategies and great products. There’s no doubt SheaKardel has the latter, and we’re happy to continue to play a role in the first two elements.
In addition to designing and building SheaKardel’s website, we also provided content writing, photography, tutorial support and, on an ongoing basis, website maintenance. In a recent campaign (June 2017) we helped drive strong growth in web traffic and email subscriber numbers. New website visitors rose 400% as a result of the campaign, with overall website page views jumping 300% on a month earlier!
As part of our marketing support, we continue to provide recommendations to enhance website and sales performance. The flexibility of the *Ecwid shopping cart helps in this regard, as we’re able to quickly and easily adjust the presentation, pricing and processes that go into a user’s shopping experience.
For instance, one of our recommendations has been to offer tiered pricing so that shoppers have an opportunity to purchase smaller-ticket items (like accessories) that may act as a gateway to larger purchases – after all, when you’re buying online you want to test the water with any new retailer before committing to making bigger purchases.
Another suggestion has been to ensure that processes are in place for a quick turnaround on order fulfillment – again, something that Ecwid’s user-friendly back-end helps with. And perhaps most importantly, there needs to be a comprehensive shipping and refund policy. Shoppers need to feel confident that they can return items that don’t work out, otherwise they won’t commit to making a purchase.
